What We Fit

Build Work, Repair Work, and the Audit That Comes First

Six build categories on the bench, four bench services on the side, and one audit that we would rather you started with.

The Bag Audit Is Not a Sales Step

It exists because most equipment complaints turn out to be a measurement problem in clubs the player already owns. Weighing what you have costs you an hour and produces a document. Sometimes that document is the entire answer.

Audit

Single Club

One club fully measured — weight, swingweight, length, loft, lie, grip. Common for a driver that suddenly stopped behaving.

Audit

Iron Set

Every iron in the set measured and plotted so the progression is visible. This is where uneven sets get caught.

Audit

Full Bag

All fourteen clubs, plus gapping notes. Booked as two visits so nothing gets rushed at the end.

Build categories

Six Benches

Each has its own page with the specific measurements taken and the components we work from.

Bench A · 60 min

Putter Bench

The bench the shop is named after. Head mass matched to your home green speed, length taken from eye position over the ball, counterweighting under the cap, and a stroke capture to check arc and face rotation. We fit both to your existing putter and to a new build.

Bench B · 75 min

Driver Build

Total mass and balance point set first, then head, loft and face angle. Adapter torque is logged so a future builder can pull and rebuild the club without altering the setting you approved.

Bench C · 90 min

Iron Set Build

Heads weighed and sorted before assembly, then paired with shafts so the swingweight progression climbs smoothly through the set rather than stepping around. Includes a full loft and lie pass.

Bench D · 60 min

Fairway Wood Build

Length, sole weighting and turf behaviour worked together. Most fairway wood complaints in this town are really a club that is too long and too light to sit down on tight bermuda.

Bench E · 60 min

Hybrid Build

Built to bridge the gap in mass and length between your longest iron and your shortest wood, instead of arriving as an orphan that matches neither.

Bench F · 60 min

Wedge Build

Head grams, bounce, grind and shaft weight decided against your divot pattern and the sand at your home course. Includes gapping from your existing set.

Who we see

Not Only Single-Figure Handicaps

A common assumption is that this kind of work is for players good enough to feel the difference. In practice a repeating swing can compensate for a badly balanced club; a developing swing usually cannot. Beginners and higher handicaps get more out of a correct mass plan, not less.

We also do a steady amount of junior work, where the variable is growth rather than preference, and a fair number of returning players whose old set was built for a swing they no longer have.

  • Juniors, refit as height and strength change
  • Returning players coming back after several years away
  • Players moving from graphite to steel or the reverse
  • Anyone whose set was assembled from several different purchases
  • Golfers with a hand, wrist, elbow or shoulder issue that changes grip pressure

Not Sure Which Bench You Need?

Describe the problem in the notes field and Bess will book you into the right one. "My 7-iron feels different from the rest" is a perfectly good brief.
